Where do donated eggs originate from?

Single women or couples may obtain eggs from a clinic’s egg donor database, cryobank or from a friend or even a family member also called a Known Donor. All donors undergo thorough screening. For those who choose anonymous donations, their identities remain confidential.

Is age a factor to consider?

We recommend that women undergo a full medical assessment that includes a consultation with a cardiologist prior to starting IVF with donor eggs. We do not recommend this procedure for women who are over 54 years of age.

What is the initial step to obtaining eggs from a donor?

Initially, you will have an online meeting to discuss your medical history and timeline. The discussion will cover various topics, including an overview of the program, donor characteristics, the matching process, treatment protocols, and the associated costs.

Following this, couples will have a medical consultation with their OBGYN. During this appointment, the doctor will outline the egg donor recipient process and conduct an evaluation of the egg donation recipient couple’s medical history. What does the screening process involve for donor recipients?

As donor recipients, both you and your partner are required to have blood tests, a semen analysis, and an assessment of the uterine cavity through diagnostic hysteroscopy. Depending on your age, medical, or genetic background, further testing may be necessary.

How are donors chosen?

All donors are required to meet the standards established by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, which largely align with the guidelines provided by the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and ASRM. Donors should be within the age range of 21 to 32 years and must be in good physical and mental health.

Alongside a thorough medical and psychological evaluation, egg donors are subjected to laboratory tests for transmissible diseases, hormonal issues, and common genetic disorders.

The following egg donor services are available:

  • Anonymous donors: Women are recruited and screened by our program. Couples receive a current photo of the donor along with detailed information that includes her health history, family health history, eye color, hair color, height, weight, blood type, ancestry, educational level, occupation, interests, and the outcomes of previous donations (if applicable).
  • Known egg donors: These donors are typically recruited by you and are screened by our program. We do not accept intergenerational donations (i.e., from daughter to mother)—all donations from family members are assessed on a case-by-case basis. You are welcome to bring your own donor as long as she meets our acceptance criteria, but cycles involving known donors often have lower success rates.

How are egg donors matched with intended mothers?

Once all medical testing requirements are completed, participants are ready to be matched. The team takes into careful consideration your preferences for donor characteristics, including eye color, hair color, height, weight, ancestry, educational level and previous donation history.

How long does it take to be matched with an egg donor?

It usually takes a matter of days to be paired with a donor. There is no waiting list.

What is a mock cycle and why is it important? (optional)

A mock cycle is a practice run that simulates the medication regimen you will follow during an oocyte (immature egg) transfer cycle. Its goal is to assess how your uterine lining reacts to the medications used to prepare the uterus for the implantation of an embryo. This is an important step in the egg recipient process and the egg donor recipient process.

What is involved in the egg donor IVF treatment cycle?

The treatment regimen generally involves suppressing the pituitary gland with a daily Lupron injection, in addition to preparing the endometrium with a gentle protocol that includes estrogen pills and progesterone, typically administered as suppositories. Your hormonal therapy will continue until the 12th week, marking the conclusion of the first trimester of your pregnancy. The coordinators will review the medication guidelines with you and clarify the administration process. This is all part of the egg donation process for recipient.

On the day the eggs are retrieved from the donor, the male intended parent will provide semen. If needed, his stored frozen sperm or sperm from a previously selected donor may also be utilized. The doctors will transfer the embryo into your uterus on the fifth day after retrieval. The timing of the transfer depends on the number and development of the embryos. Overall, the treatment cycle is completed within four to eight weeks. Understanding the entire egg donation process for recipient is crucial for success.

Is a legal contract necessary?

No, in Ukraine there is no need for an agreement with an egg donor. The contract you sign with our clinic satisfies all legal obligations, and no additional legal documentation is necessary.
